Hire OpenCart Developers
OpenCart is small, quick to host and easy to read, which is why so many shops still run on it. It is also easy to damage. Extensions change core behaviour through modification files, and a shop with thirty of them can behave in ways no single author intended.
An OpenCart developer from our team works in your shop and your repository, and reports to you. If the shop has never been under version control, that is usually the first thing to put right. We employ and equip the developer and arrange cover.

OpenCart tasks worth giving to a developer
These six jobs account for most OpenCart development. Each one assumes there is a staging copy of the shop to work on.
Custom extensions
Modules, payment methods, shipping methods and order totals written to the MVC-L structure, with an installer, admin settings and language files. Events are used in preference to file modifications wherever a suitable trigger exists.
Untangling OCMOD and vQmod conflicts
Reading the modification files and logs to see which extensions alter the same lines, then reordering, merging or rewriting them so that each change applies cleanly.
Upgrading from 3.x to 4.x
Version 4 changed the extension directory layout and introduced namespaces, so extensions and themes made for version 3 do not carry over unchanged. We inventory them and replace or port each one.
Theme and template work
Twig templates, stylesheets and scripts for the storefront, including mobile layout and page weight. Changes go into the theme, not into the default template files that an update would overwrite.
Catalogue imports and feeds
Bulk product, price and stock updates from supplier files, and outbound feeds for marketplaces and shopping channels. Imports run in batches from the command line or cron so they do not time out in a browser.
Speed and database care
Indexes on large product and order tables, image cache settings, SEO URL lookups and session storage. We also check what each extension adds to every page load.

How experienced an OpenCart developer should be
OpenCart is approachable, so the level you need depends less on the platform and more on how tangled the shop has become.
Junior
Edits Twig templates and styles, installs and configures extensions, updates language strings and fixes simple bugs on a staging copy.
Choose when: the shop is tidy and a more senior developer reviews changes.
Mid-level
Writes extensions from scratch, integrates payment and shipping services, builds import scripts and resolves modification conflicts.
Choose when: you need new features on a shop that is in reasonable order.
Senior
Plans a major version upgrade, audits a shop with many overlapping modifications, and advises whether to repair, rebuild or move platform.
Choose when: the shop is heavily modified, undocumented, or due for a move to version 4.
First steps with an OpenCart developer
Write to us with the details
OpenCart version, theme, hosting and a rough count of extensions. Then the change or fault you want dealt with.
Talk to the person we put forward
You get the profile of one developer and a conversation with them. You can decline and ask for a different person.
A trial-sized job
One extension fix or one template change, carried out on staging. It lets you check the work before giving more.
A regular routine
Tasks and progress sit in whichever tracker you use. A summary arrives weekly with what was finished and what is waiting. You are billed monthly.

Is this right for your OpenCart shop?
We are a good choice when
- Your shop needs steady development and nobody on staff writes PHP.
- Extensions from the marketplace nearly fit but need adapting.
- You are planning the move to version 4 and want it done in order.
- You maintain OpenCart shops for clients and need more hands.
Look elsewhere when
- You only need an extension installed once. Its vendor will usually do that.
- You want changes made on the live shop with no copy to test on.
- You need a developer working from your premises.
- Your budget covers a single afternoon of work.
OpenCart questions and straight answers
Should we upgrade from OpenCart 3 to 4?
Not automatically. Version 4 is a structural change, and every extension and theme has to be replaced or ported. If the shop works and its extensions are still maintained, staying on a maintained 3.x release can be reasonable for now. We set out both paths with what each involves.
What is the difference between OCMOD, vQmod and events?
OCMOD and vQmod both produce altered copies of core files using search-and-replace rules, which is fragile when two extensions target the same line. Events let an extension run code before or after a controller, model or view without altering files. We prefer events where one is available.
Can you fix an extension bought from the marketplace?
Usually, if its source is readable. Some extensions are encoded, in which case we work around them or replace them. Changes to a third-party extension are kept separate so its updates can still be applied.
Our changes disappear after refreshing modifications. Why?
The edit was probably made to a file in the modification cache, which OpenCart rebuilds from the originals on every refresh. The lasting fix is to move the change into its own modification, event or extension.
Who owns the extensions you write?
You do. They are committed to your repository and delivered with full source. Ownership and confidentiality are covered in the agreement before work begins.
How do we end the arrangement?
It renews monthly. Tell us before a new month starts. The developer hands over unfinished tasks with notes and you withdraw their access.
Tell us about your OpenCart shop
Version, theme and what you want done. A list of installed extensions is useful but not required. We reply within one business day.
